MESSAGE #907 I LOVE MONDAYS!

“Every man takes the limits of his own field of vision for the limits of the world.”
-ARTHUR SCHOPENHAUER

Most people hate Mondays. It’s the start of the work week. The weekend is over.

I love Mondays. I teach quite a bit on Saturdays and Sundays, so by the time Monday rolls around, I have free time to catch up on things.

It’s all perspective.

When you’re competing in sports, do you always want to give your opponent the same perspective?

Does a pitcher always want to throw fastballs?

Of course not.

A smart pitcher will have a good change-up and curve ball in their repertoire.

My challenge to you is to look at things from others’ perspectives. Your opponents, your coach, your boss, your co-worker, your peers, your family members, your romantic partner.

When you do this, you see things differently, you learn new ways to do things and you are less likely to be on autopilot. Oh, and you will get better results.

Here’s an exercise you can do.

Crawl around on all fours like a baby, or a dog. Notice how everything looks different. It’s not right or wrong, it’s just different.

We tend to get mindless in our actions and our thinking. If we can stop and look at things from other points of view, our world changes and it becomes a new game, a game where there are no limits.

MESSAGE #833 CHANGE THIS AND YOU WILL WIN MORE…

“The trick is in what one emphasizes. We either make ourselves miserable, or we make ourselves happy. The amount of work is the same.”
-CARLOS CASTANEDA

I heard a profound statement recently.

When I went to hear Dan Millman speak at the Mind Body Spirit Expo in Philadelphia a few weeks ago, he said something that stuck with me.

“It took me 25 years of marriage to realize that all this time, my wife wasn’t criticizing me, she was improving me.”

I think this is brilliant.

We all have our own perception of conditions. You can have the same situation and two totally different views.

What if we looked at our opponents as people who are improving us?

What if we looked at our teachers/coaches as people who are helping us become better students/athletes? (Especially when they’re tough on us and make us do fitness)

What if we looked at our parents as people who are teaching us to become better human beings, with only the best intentions?

What if we looked at our difficult clients as people who are making us better salespeople?

When you change your perspective, you change your world.

When you change your world, you change your results.

MESSAGE #403 OUCH!!!

Day 5 in Jamaica was another good one – some snorkeling, sailing, beach and pool. It was all good, but while I was in the ocean, I got stung by a jellyfish.

It wasn’t even a jellyfish, it was a jellyfish tentacle. I didn’t know what it was – it just wrapped itself around my wrist but then it began to sting. I was fine.

Did I get bitten by a great white shark today?

No, it was just a jellyfish tentacle, so what does that mean?

It’s not the big things in life that get you…it’s the little things.

Your life, sport or job is the same way.
